Future leaders aren’t found, they’re forged. In a fast-shifting world, discipleship-first leadership builds people who can carry the mission into tomorrow.
1) Measure Potential, Not Just Performance
Performance reviews tell you about yesterday. Potential asks: How fast can this person grow? Look for learning agility, values alignment, and influence instinct. Build growth plans with the 70-20-10 framework.
2) Separate Responsibility from Accountability in Delegation
Authority without debrief is abdication. Use the Delegation Ladder (Tell → Sell → Test → Consult → Delegate). Set metrics, checkpoints, and then let leaders run.
3) Mentor to Multiply
Mentoring shapes identity, not just skill. Try a monthly 4-S rhythm: Story, Scripture, Skills, Stretch. Identity fuels resilience.
4) Balance HEAD, HEART, HANDS
- HEAD: critical thinking in ambiguity
- HEART: empathy that unlocks collaboration
- HANDS: disciplined execution that finishes well
5) Make Delegation a Muscle (SWIM)
Start with Situation, define the Wanted outcome, give Instructions, and agree on Metrics. Then debrief: What worked? What didn’t? What’s next?
6) Trust & Purpose Trump Perks
Connect role → team mission → Kingdom impact. Celebrate small wins and honest lessons publicly. Purpose retains better than perks.
